Our aims

At the ICT Department, we believe that every young person deserves the opportunity to embrace new possibilities and develop the skills needed for a successful future. Our role is to support learners in building their confidence, knowledge, and digital competence through engaging and relevant learning experiences. The qualifications offered within the department are designed to help students identify their strengths, recognise areas for improvement, and set realistic goals for personal and professional development.

Curriculum

At Key Stage 3, we offer a comprehensive Digital Skills programme designed to equip students with essential knowledge and practical abilities for the modern digital world. Pupils learn how to manage files effectively, use a range of online platforms, and understand the importance of keeping their data safe. They develop confidence in communication by using email appropriately and professionally. Students also explore creative aspects of technology through desktop publishing, designing and building their own websites, and creating digital movies. This hands-on course encourages creativity, problem-solving, and responsible use of technology, helping students build strong foundations for further study and future careers.

Key Stage 4 Options

At Key Stage 4, we offer students the opportunity to choose a pathway that suits their interests and future career goals in the digital world.

CCEA GCSE Digital Technology

This course develops students’ understanding of computer systems, programming, and digital problem-solving. It is ideal for those interested in coding, software development, and progressing to further study in ICT or Computing.

CCEA Occupational Studies – Digital Skills (Graphics and Web Creation)

This practical course allows students to develop creative and vocational skills in:

o Graphic Design

o Web Creation

It is well suited to students who enjoy creative digital work and want to build real-world skills that can be applied in a range of careers, including media, design, and digital marketing.

GCE Digital Technology

At Key Stage 5, students can continue their studies by taking CCEA GCE Digital Technology, a two-year A Level course designed to develop advanced knowledge and practical skills in computing and digital systems.

This course builds on the foundations developed at GCSE and focuses on how digital systems are designed, developed, and used in real-world organisations.

Students will study a range of topics including:

- Approaches to System Development – understanding how software systems are planned, designed, and tested

- Fundamentals of Digital Technology – including computer hardware, software, and data processing

- Application Development – designing and developing a software solution to solve a real problem

The course includes both external examinations and practical coursework, allowing students to demonstrate both theoretical understanding and applied programming skills.
